    STOU Graduate Ranked First in District Secretary Recruitment Exam

    Congratulations to Mr. Nasree Cheha, a Graduate of the School of Political Science, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University, who ranked first in the national District Secretary recruitment exam.

    Opened by the Department of Provincial Administration (DOPA) in December 2023, the position attracted approximately 10,000 applicants. Among the 700 shortlisted candidates was Mr. Nasree Cheha, Head of the Department of Physiotherapy at the Faculty of Medicine, Princess of Naradhiwas University. The examination was held on 24-25 March 2024, and DOPA announced Mr. Nasree Cheha’s appointment as a civil servant for the position on April 4, 2024.

    Nasree holds a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from Chulalongkorn University. But with his dream to become a District Secretary, Nasree wanted to pursue a degree in Political Science. This is when he chose to study at Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University where he could study for another Bachelor’s degree while working full-time.

    In his personal blog “Tips to study at STOU,” Nasree mentioned, “STOU is the place of choice when it comes to providing opportunities for people of all genders, ages, professions, and nationalities to study without space limitations, with the help of educational technology and examination facilities adequately available.”

    Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) would like to congratulate our faculty members and students of the Doctor of Philosophy Program in Information Science, School of Liberal Arts, who have won the Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility (ICM) scholarship (2024 – 2025) for exchanging technical teaching and research at the Institute of Library and Information Science, Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), Hungary.

    The Council of Community-Public Health (CCPH) was established under the Community Public Health Profession Act B.E. 2556 (2013). The CCPH plays a vital role in ensuring the quality and safety of community public health practice in Thailand. It is a juristic person with the following responsibilities: issuing licenses to community public health practitioners, considering the suspension or revocation of licenses, certifying degrees, diplomas, or certificates for the practice of community public health, certifying the competence of community public health practitioners, promoting education and research in community public health, and overseeing and regulating the provision of services by community public health practitioners.

    Congratulations to STOU Faculty Members for Receiving Outstanding Civil Servant Awards

    On 2 April 2024, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), through the Office of the Permanent Secretary (OPS), organized a ceremony to honor civil servants and personnel of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation on the occasion of National Civil Servants’ Day, which falls on 1 April every year. The ceremony was held at the Bhumibodin Meeting Room, Department of Science Service, with Ms. Supamas Isarabhakdi, the Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, presiding over the ceremony and presenting certificates of honor and commemorative pins to outstanding civil servants for the year 2023, as well as certificates of honor to MHESI’s People of Merit for 2023.

    On this occasion, Associate Professor Dr. Kamolrat Intaratat, a Faculty Member in the School of Communication Arts at STOU, and Miss Phayao Thaimvech, an experienced General Administration Officer (Senior Professional Level) at STOU Nakhon Nayok Regional Center, who were both awarded as outstanding civil servants of Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University in 2023, joined to receive the awards at this OPS event.

    STOU received Thai Library Association’s Certificate of Honor

    The Thai Library Association, under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, organized an award ceremony to honor those who have made outstanding contributions to the library profession. This was to give recognition and present certificates of honor for the year 2023, during the annual general meeting of 2023. On this occasion, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) received the award as the Organization Contributing to the Library Profession and Library and Information Science Education in 2023. The ceremony took place on 28 March 2024 at the Prince Palace Hotel, Bangkok. 

    Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) has continuously placed great importance on the library profession and library and information science education, as follows:

    1) In Distance Education in Information Science, STOU supports the provision of Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral Degree programs under the supervision of the School of Liberal Arts in Information Science.

    2) In Library Management, STOU has regularly allocated budgets for the development of the Office of Documentation and Information, from its earlier status as the Documentation and Information Center until it became the present Office of Documentation and Information in 1986. This includes the Library and Learning Resources Center Building Project, which is a prototypical library building with modern engineering, energy conservation, advanced building technologies, and readiness to serve as a lifelong learning center with various areas such as learning spaces, library service areas, teaching and learning areas, and areas showcasing the university’s historical development and identity. Within this building are sections dedicated to university archives and identity information services, such as the Royal Parental Education Information, Distance Education Information, and Nonthaburi Studies, as well as a permanent exhibition titled “Sukhothai Thammathirat Nitat.”

    3) In Information Resources Development and Library Personnel Development, STOU has allocated budgets for the acquisition of information resources for services and personnel development in terms of knowledge, skills, and experience.

    4) In Partnerships and Networks, STOU has provided course materials to partners according to cooperation agreements, such as with the Department of Corrections and the Office of Non-Formal Education. 

    5) In Promoting the University’s Identity, STOU has allocated budgets and developed initiatives to become a model organization in the information that reflects its identity, reveres the monarchy, and establishes museums.

    6) In Local Academic Services for Nonthaburi, STOU has promoted itself as a learning resource center for local information in Nonthaburi province by accepting donated objects and pottery from private museums, thus preserving the national heritage through the university’s efforts.

    STOU received LESS letter of recognition

    The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment by Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization) awarded Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University a Letter of Recognition for participating in the Low Emission Support Scheme (LESS).

    Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University changed 53 air conditioners which helped to reduce 15.866 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent. The university was recognized for participating in LESS on 26 December 2024.

    On 2 February 2024, Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn graced the “Thailand Inventors’ Day 2024” opening ceremony with Her royal presence and bestowed certificates to recipients of the National Research Awards, at Event Hall 102, Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre (BITEC) Bangna.

    Among the awardees were Dr. Tanapond Swanpitak, Head of the Business Administration Program, School of Management Science, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University, who presented her thesis titled “Family Control and Corporate Decision-Making: Evidence from Thailand’s Listed Firms.”

    Thailand Inventors’ Day falls on 2 February to commemorate the inventorship of King Rama IX who enjoyed the invention patent for Chaipattana Low Speed Surface Aerator on 2 February 1993.

    Thailand Inventors’ Day 2024 was held from 2 to 6 February 2024, at Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre (BITEC) Bangna, under the theme of “Inventions and Innovations Leading the Nation.” The event featured various exhibitions, including ones on “The Father of. Thai Invention,” the National Research Awards and inventions and innovations from Thai and international organizations, Thailand New Gen Inventors Award 2024: I-New Gen Award 2024 and etc. The Bangkok International Intellectual Property, Invention, Innovation and Technology Exposition (IPITEx) 2024 was held simultaneously along with other seminars and workshops.
