On 5 September 2024, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) organized the Award Ceremony for Outstanding Students and Graduates 2024 at Chalermprakiat Building. In this occasion, Asst. Prof. Dr. Phanompatt Smitananda, Acting President of STOU, presided over the ceremony and presented the plaque. The ceremony celebrated and recognized the outstanding achievements of individuals who have made significant national or international contributions. This year ceremony honored a total of 58 alumni, graduates, and students, including;

On 4 September 2024, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) organized the Research Awards Ceremony 2024 to promote the distance education system of STOU, which was held in celebration of the 46th year Anniversary of STOU on 5 September 2024.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Phanompatt Smitananda, Acting President of STOU, presided over the event and presented the Research Awards 2024. The research awards ceremony aims to foster a research-oriented environment at the university and motivate staff to conduct high-quality research that contributes to the development of the university, society, and the country. This year’s awards recognize 11 research projects, with 2 projects received Excellent Research Awards and 9 projects received Good Research Awards. On 3 September 2024, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) organized the primary student poetry reading competition on Maha Asiarawat Raja Stuti (royal praise poem) at Seminar Building I (Seminar and Training Center). In this occasion, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Taweewat Watthanakuljaroen, Dean of School of Educational Studies, presided over the opening ceremony and presented awards. There were 20 schools joining this competition, including boy students from 17 schools and girl students from 16 schools. The committee included Asst. Prof. Dr. Apirak Anaman, Mr. Anusorn Kadaman and Mrs. Talima Ploypanich.

The wining students were awarded a trophy, a certificate, and a cash prize. This competition event was organized to celebrate His Majesty the King’s 6-cycle birthday on 28 July 2024, and to promote Thai reading and speaking skills. Moreover, the competition was held to the celebrate the 46th year Anniversary of Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University.
On 2 September 2024, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) organized Innovation and Good Practice Award Ceremony 2024, which was held at Aneknitat Building (Conference Hall). In this occasion, Asst. Prof. Dr. Phanompatt Smitananda, Acting President of STOU, presided over the opening ceremony and presented the awards.
The event aims to encourage personnel from all departments within the university to participate in innovation development to support the department’s main missions and to use their knowledge and abilities to innovate or enhance existing works, responding to the needs of the students.
For this year, there are 18 works in the competition, divided into 6 categories:

The National Research Council of Thailand, Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, in collaboration with research network agencies across the country, organized the Thailand Research Expo 2024 under the concept “Synergizing Research Power, Driving Thailand’s Economy and Society Sustainably.” The event was held from 26 – 30 August 2024, at the Centara Grand Hotel and Bangkok Convention Center, Central World department store, Bangkok. In this expo, the Institute for Research and Development showcased one exhibition and presented two oral presentations. The exhibition a featured project on “Upgrading High-Quality Organic Fertilizer Products from Agricultural Waste for Business Purposes.” This project was conducted by the School of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU), in collaboration with Ban Sabai Jai and Ban Saraphi Community Enterprises in Samut Songkhram. Asst. Prof. Dr. Parichat Dittakit, Faculty Member of School of Agriculture and Cooperatives of STOU, was the project leader.
The oral presentations included the following.
1. An academic paper on “The Development of an Integrated Health Promotion Model to Prevent the Risk of Dementia in the Elderly in Nonthaburi Province”, led by Assoc. Prof. Pol.Lt.Col. Dr. Sukaroon Wongtim, Faculty Member of School of Educational Studies of STOU
2. A project on “Developing Local Innovation Potential to Promote Lifelong Learning” led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Thanathnuth Chatpakkarattana, Faculty Member of Office of Educational Technology.
In this occasion, Asst. Prof. Dr. Phanompatt Smitananda, Acting President of STOU, received a plaque of honor from Dr. Wiparat De-ong, Executive Director of National Research Council of Thailand (NRTC). STOU has collaborated with NRTC as part of a research network to drive and develop research and innovation personnel under the training project “Creating New Generation Researchers”
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Thitirussaya Ganpech, Faculty Member of Office of Educational Technology received a certificate of recognition as a main lecturer for the researcher development course in the lecture section. They also received a certificate of appreciation as the head of the “Creating New Generation Researchers” training project.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Thanathnuth Chatpakkarattana, Faculty Member of Office of Educational Technology also received a certificate of recognition as a main lecturer for the researcher development course in the lecture section.
During the closing ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sungworn Ngudgratoke received an honorary plaque for the dynamic participation in this year National Research Expo.
Asst. Prof. Dr. Thanapan Thanee, Director of the STOU’s Regional Academic Resources and Community Engagement Center – Ubon Ratchathani recieved “Kon Dee Sri-Isan Award” in the 44th Kon Dee Sri-Isan Award at Centara Ubon Hotel, Ubon Ratchathani, on 17 August 2024. Mr. Somsak Suwansujarit, Chief Ombudsman, presided over the ceremony. The event was organized by the Yasothon Mass Media Association in collaboration with a network of private sector partners, including the Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club of Ubon and the Business and Professional Association. Kon Dee Sri-Isan Award is one of the prestigious awards of Thailand. The award aims to support and promote good people who dedicate and sacrifice themselves for the benefit of society. Besides honesty and integrity, are encouraged to do good deeds, and maintain an honorable standing in society. The presentation of this award has long been a unique tradition of the northeastern region of Thailand, where it is locally called “Isan”. The award ceremony is held annually, rotating among different provinces in Thailand.

The IEC2024 Conference was held under the theme “Lifelong Learning Transformation: Entering the World of Artificial Intelligence in Education Era.” Prof. Dr. Supachai Patumnakul, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, presided over the opening ceremony.
The objective of the conference was to promote academic knowledge sharing and exchange ideas on curriculum development with international institutions, aiming to gain widespread global recognition.
To promote open online learning management (Thailand Massive Open Online Course:Thai MOOC), which is under the supervision of the Thailand Cyber University Development Project, the conference included an award ceremony for outstanding online courses, the 2024 Thai MOOC Award.” Prof. Dr. Jintavee Khlaisang, Deputy Director of Thailand Cyber University (TCU), Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, presented the awards.
There were 10 categories of Outstanding Online Course Award. STOU courses received awards in 2 categories:
Outstanding Government Personnel Development Courses, received by the project leader, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Smaksmorn Phakdeeteva, Faculty Member of STOU’s Office of Educational Technology.
Elderly Caregivers Supporting Thailand’s Aging Society Courses, received by the project leader, Professor Emeritus Dr. Boontip Siritarungsri, Faculty Member of STOU’s School of Nursing.

The award-winning ” Outstanding Government Personnel Development Courses” is a collaborative effort between STOU and the Office of the Civil Service Commission (OCSC). It consists of 15 courses designed to develop skills and enhance the capabilities of civil servants and personnel in government agencies. Each course features lectures from numerous distinguished speakers, including M.L. Dispanadda Diskul, CEO of Mae Fah Luang Foundation, and Dr. Sumet Tantivejkul, Secretary-General of the Chaipattana Foundation. One of the most successful courses is “Google Tools for Work Development,” focusing on the digital literacy skills development. The success shows in the high number of registrations, with over 37,000 users registered. More than 25,125 online certificates have been issued to those who passed the course evaluation, with a high pass rate of 68% of registered learners.
“The Elderly Caregivers Supporting Thailand’s Aging Society” course block consists of 14 courses. Led by Professor Emeritus Dr. Boontip Siritarungsri, Faculty Member of STOU’s School of Nursing, the course team developed an “Innovative Curriculum for Elderly Caregivers in the Digital Society,” featuring advance elderly care courses totaling 420 hours, of which 200 learning hours are provided as online courses on the Thai MOOC platform. The courses were developed using a research-based approach to benefit both elderly caregivers and the elderly themselves, allowing them to learn about self-care and how to care for family members. The course team include experts from STOU, Srisavarindhira Thai Red Cross Institute of Nursing, and other institutions, as well as independent scholars who share their knowledge and expertise.
