On 4 November 2025, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn presided over the opening ceremony of the Chiang Mai Public Library (CNX Library). On this occasion, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU), led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Taweewat Watthanakuljaroen, President of STOU, presented a report on the operations of the “STOU Special Educational Service Corner” Chiang Mai.
Recognizing the importance of promoting lifelong learning, the University has established these special service corners at provincial public libraries nationwide, with 94 locations currently in operation.
The President was accompanied by Asst. Prof. Dr. Karn Boonsiri, Vice-President for Academic Services, Networking and Special Affairs, Asst. Prof. Dr. Khajornsak Sitthi, Director of the Office of Educational Services; and Mr. Banjong Somsri, Director of the STOU Regional Academic Resources and Community Engagement Center – Lampang.
On 28 October 2025, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) delivered the donated medicine, clothes, shoes, and bags to the representative of Thai Volunteer Service (TVS).
These donated items will be used in the TVS project to promote a just and equitable society, such as:
Promoting learning for children in the community.
medicine and medical supplies to be forwarded to low-income communities and remote areas.
Other public benefit activities.
On 31 October 2025, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Saowanee Chinnalong,Faculty Member of the School of Communication Arts delivered the donated items such as medicine, clothes, shoes, underpads and children’s item to Umphang Hospital.
On 23 October 2025, The alumni club and student club of Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) from Pathum Thani, Bangkok, and Nonthaburi – have joined forces to organize a volunteer activity under the project “Volunteer for Good Society” to develop and improve the landscape of Pathum Thani Public Library.
Led by Mr. Tamphong Wongchan,Acting Director of Regional Academic Resources and Community Engagement Center – Nonthaburi along with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sita Yiemkuntitavorn, Faculty Member of School of Educational Studies who serves as the advisor to the STOU Nonthaburi Student Club, they brought alumni and students from all three provinces, around 37 people to maintenance and improvement of an area” at the Pathum Thani Provincial Public Library.
Activities focused on work that concretely benefits public welfare and community health. The volunteer team worked together to clear drainage pipes, improve drainage channels and access routes, as well as clean the surrounding areas.
On 20 October 2025,Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) Donates Drinking Water to Flood Victims in Pakkret. STOU has expressed its concern for the victims of the flooding situation in Pakkret, Nonthaburi. STOU donated drinking water to help alleviate the suffering of the affected residents.
STOU, led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Pavin Chinachoti, Acting Vice-President for General Administration and Human Resources, presented 500 dozen (a total of 6,000 bottles) of drinking water to the Pakkret City Municipality. Wichai Bandasak, Mayor of Pakkret Municipality, received the donation, which will subsequently be distributed to residents severely affected in the riverside communities.
On 3 October 2025, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) led by Acting Lt. Dr. Nikom Leamjui, Director of Regional Academic Resources and Community Engagement Center – Sukhothai delivered 5 boxes of donated drugs to Dean of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Naresuan University (NU) to be distributed in PharmaSea Project of the Faculty.
In this occasion, the STOU team also visited the Pharmacy Faculty’s storage room at Naresuan University and listened to the systematic process presentation of sorting and managing medicine before transferring it to hospitals facing medicine shortages. This handover of medicine is part of raising awareness project, “Towards World University Rankings: Green University.” The project aims to promote sustainable waste management, from proper sorting and recycling to creating value through reuse, while instilling a sense of social and environmental responsibility at all levels.
On 29 September 2025 The director of Thai Maritime Enforcement Command Center (Thai-MECC) led the team to delivered plastic bottles and plastic caps to Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU). This donation accepted by Asst. Prof. Dr. Worrawit Nakpan, Director of the Department of International Affairs.
This donation is a part of the support for the raising awareness project for “the World University Rankings: Green University,” which is focuses on sustainable waste management, from sorting and proper recycling to creating value through reuse, while instilling a sense of social and environmental responsibility.
In this occasion, Thai-MECC also study visited at Educational Broadcasting Production Center (EBPC).
On 19 September 2025, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gan Chanyawudhiwan, Acting Vice-President for Academic Services, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Worrawit Nakpan, Director of the Department of International Affairs, delivered plastic water bottles, plastic bottle caps, plastic bags, and UHT drink cartons collected and sorted as part of the waste separation efforts at the STOU Green Day 2025 event to Wat Chak Daeng, Samut Prakan.
On the same day STOU also delivered underpads, tissues, adult diapers, medical supplies, cloth bags, cosmetics, and other items from STOU Green Day 2025 to the director of the Phrapradaeng Center for Empowerment and Vocational Development for Persons with Disabilities, Samut Prakan. The donation items would be utilized to support the better life of people with disabilities.
This donation drive is part of the “Raising Awareness for UI Green Metric World University Rankings” initiative. The project highlights waste-sorting and promotes the reuse of unused items to their full potential. This helps reduce production costs, benefits the environment, and improves their quality of life.
On 9 September 2025, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU), led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Worrawit Nakpan, Director of the Department of International Affairas, delivered old calendars to Ms. Chanidapa Petcharak, Director of the Foundation for the Blind in Thailand Under the Royal Patronage of H.M. The Queen. These old calendars will be made into Braille desk calendars and passed on to visually impaired people to use in the following year.
On the same day, STOU also delivered full-body stockings and hard plastic cups and paper bags to the Sirindhorn National Medical Rehabilitation Institute (SNMRI). The full-body stockings will be used to mold the prosthetic socket. Plastic cups will be utilized as containers for mixing chemicals needed to manufacture prosthetic devices. Paper bags will be reused for take-home medicine instead of plastic bags.

On 26 August 2025, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) held an event to celebrate its 47th anniversary, which fell on 5 September 2025. The STOU Department of International Affairs collaborated with both internal and external organizations—including Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), Thailand Environment Institute Foundation (TEI), Office of Continuing Education, Office of Documentation and Information, Office of the University Press, Institute for Research and Development, Buildings and Grounds Division and Department of Rajamangalaphisek Education Park. STOU Green Day 2025 was held at Parichart Pavilion.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phanompatt Smitananda, Acting President of STOU, presided over the event, while Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gan Chanyawudhiwan, Acting Vice-President for Academic Services, Arts and Culture Preservation, and International Affairs, delivered the report. This event welcomed a number of participants, including STOU executives and staff, teachers and students from nearby elementary schools, and the general public, who joined activities to promote environmental awareness.
STOU has a policy of becoming a sustainable university through various initiatives, such as reducing electricity consumption, improving waste management, conducting research on sustainability, and participating in the UI GreenMetric World University rankings to become a more environmentally conscious institution.
The “STOU Green Day 2025” event aimed to help staff and the public gain knowledge and understanding of how to use resources efficiently and apply the 3Rs—Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle—in their daily lives and work. The event featured many interesting activities, including a panel discussion titled “STOU’s Journey Towards a Green University: Lessons and Inspiration from Network Partners.” There were also numerous activity booths and the Research Awards Ceremony 2025 organized by the Institute for Research and Development.
On 25 July 2025, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU), led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Worrawit Nakpan, Acting Director of the Department of International Affairs, delivered “orphan waste” collected from staff, students, alumni, and the public to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) Headquarters.
This was a mobile orphan waste activity organized by Mr. Somboon Kittianong, a representative for waste management through grinding to create a coal substitute fuel. Representatives from EGAT’s Resource Management and Administration Department accepted the donation.
“Orphan waste” refers to garbage that cannot be recycled or sold for value. Examples include scraps of cloth, old clothes, detergent packets, refill pouches for various liquids, mouse pads, desiccant packets, sponges, toothbrushes, toothpaste tubes, plastic cream jars and tubes, combs, expired medicine, and other types of waste that can be cut up and used as fuel. This waste undergoes a modern technological process to produce high-quality Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF). This RDF can then be used as a substitute for coal in cement factories and waste-to-energy power plants, preventing the waste from being sent to landfills in various provinces.
This donation activity was held under the “Raising of the transition to World University Rankings: Green University” project, driven by the Department of International Affairs of STOU. The project aims to raise environmental awareness, promote waste separation, and encourage efficient resource utilization.
