  • STOU joined the 24th Higher Education Arts and Culture Festival

    On 4 February 2026, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Karn Boonsiri, Vice-President for Academic Services, Networking and Special Affairs, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chanoknart Boonwatthanakul, Director of the Office of Continuing Education along with administrators and STOU’s staff joined the 24th Higher Education Arts and Culture Festival, themed “Following the Path of Arts to Phranakorn: 134 Years of the Foundation of Thai Teacher Training.”

    In this occasion, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Preang Kitratporn, Acting President of Phranakhon Rajabhat University (PNRU) delivered the report. The ceremony was honored by Ms. Wattanasopee Suksa-ard, Strategic Advisor for Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation, who presided over the opening ceremony at Phranakorn Rajabhat University.

    STOU collaborated with Poh-Chang Academy of Arts, Rajamangala University of Technology Rattanakosin inorganizing an exhibition titled “Continuing the Royal Aspiration for the Khon Performance: In Honor of His Majesty the King’s 74th Birthday Anniversary.”

    The objectives were to carry forward His Majesty King Rama X’s royal commitment to the preservation of Khon and to provide opportunities for both theoretical and practical workshops under the theme “The Charm of Embroidery: Learning Applied Thai Motifs.”

  • STOU donation to The Mirror Foundation

    On 2 February 2026, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Worrawit Nakpan, Director of
    the Department of International Affairs delivered donated items such as clothes and books to The Mirror Foundation to be distributed to vulnerable groups and utilized in various social welfare activities. Representatives from the foundation received the donations at
    the Lak Si Donation Center, Bangkok.

    From “Waste Separation” to “Creating Social Opportunities,” this activity is an integral part of the project “World University Rankings Awareness: Green University”. The primary objective is to cultivate a strong conscience regarding waste separation and efficient resource recovery, aimed at reducing waste within the university and surrounding communities. Concurrently, this initiative supports
    the operations of The Mirror Foundation, a non-governmental organization dedicated to social development, human rights, and extensive resource sharing. This collaboration serves as a key driver towards a low-carbon society and contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

  • STOU Donation to Umphang Hospital in January 2026

    On 23 January 2025, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) delivered medicine, medical supplies, clothes, and shoes to Umphang Hospital. This donation aims to support the medical treatment of people in remote areas.

    Asst. Prof. Dr. Somsak Tienjaroonkul, Faculty Member of the School  of Law, represented the university in handing over the donated items. Mrs. Nuttanat Wongcharoen, Deputy Director of Umphang Hospital, accepted the donation. The items will be used at Umphang Hospital and distributed to other hospitals with limited budgets.

  • STOU signing MOU with A.Best

    On 14 January 2026, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Natural Resources and Environmental Cooperation. This partnership aims to promote the upcycling of “waste materials” within the university
    to create sustainable value-added products with A.Best Inter Products Co.Ltd. (A.Best).  

    The signing ceremony took place at STOU headquarters. The MOU was signed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Taweewat Watthanakuljaroen, President of STOU, and Mr. Rungroj Boontarak, Director of A.Best. Among the ceremony witnesses from two institutions were
    Dr. Tanapond Swanpitak, Vice-President for Financial Affairs and University Assets of STOU,  Asst. Prof. Dr. Jeeranuch Buddeejeen, Director of the Office of the University Press of STOU, Mr. Veerapong Boontarak, Chief Commercial Officer of A.Best, and
    Mr. Noparuj Nilkot, Human Resources Manager of A.Best.

    The objectives of this MOU are as follows: developing research and academic projects, enhancing and creating value, and establishing a collaborative model.

  • STOU signing MOU with GAF

    On 22 January 2025, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) advanced its international network by holding an online Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing ceremony for academic cooperation with the Green Africa Foundation (GAF) from
    the Republic of Kenya. This partnership aims to promote knowledge exchange, capacity building, and mutual sustainable development.

    The ceremony took place at the Educational Broadcasting Production Center (EBPC), at STOU Headquarters. The MOU was signed
    by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Taweewat Watthanakuljaroen, President of STOU, and Dr. Isaac Kalua Green, Founder and Chairperson of the GAF,
    with executives and representatives from both sides as witnesses. This collaboration focuses on joint operations in education, distance learning, agricultural knowledge exchange, and sustainable community development—rooted in the Philosophy of Sufficiency Economy and adapted to each country’s context.

    Furthermore, the event was supported by diplomatic and international cooperation agencies. Representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and related organizations witnessed the signing and discussed future collaboration. Notable attendees included
    H.E. Ms. Morakot Janemathukorn, the former Ambassador of Royal Thai Embassy in Nairobi, along with representatives from the Royal Thai Embassy in Nairobi, the Africa Division of the Department of South Asian, Middle East, and African Affairs, and the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA).

    The presence of these diplomatic representatives underscores the significance of academic cooperation between Thailand and the Republic of Kenya at both the institutional and national levels. STOU aims to leverage its potential in distance education and academic expertise to support sustainable development based on the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy and strengthen communities in the long term. This partnership marks a significant milestone for STOU in expanding its academic network into Africa, aligning with its strategy to be a leading global open university that utilizes technology and educational innovation to promote lifelong learning.

  • STOU joined ASAIHL Conference 2025

    On 3-6 December 2525, Asst. Prof. Dr. Songlak Sakulwichitsintu, Vice-President for Research, Innovation, Information Technology and International Affairs and Asst. Prof. Pongsit Aroonratanakul, Dean of the School of Law, joined the ASAIHL Conference 2025 on “Learn by Doing: Experiential Learning in Higher Education” which took place in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

    This conference serves as a stage for executives, academics, and experts from diverse professions to exchange ideas, research findings, and best practices under the following three key themes:

    • Career Management – Preparing students for an ever-changing global workforce
    • Global Citizenship Optimization – Fostering cultural competence and social responsibility
    • High-Impact Practices – Exploring transformative learning experiences, including internships, co-ops, and undergraduate research.
  • STOU delivered donated items to Pranangklao Hospital

    On 18 December 2025, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU), led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Worrawit Nakpan, Director of
    the Department of International Affairs, delivered donated items to Pranangklao Hospital. Representatives from the Forensic Medicine Unit accepted the donation for distribution to other departments.

    The donated items included cloth and paper bags for patients to carry medicine home, as well as hair-styling tools, wigs, cosmetics, and skincare products to be used for the mortuary makeup. This activity is part of the “World University Rankings Awareness: Green University” project. The project aims to promote the concept of resource efficiency and sustainable waste management.

  • STOU Supports Green Road’s “Trash for Merit” Project, Advancing Towards Green University Goals

    12 December 2025 – Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU), led by Mr. Supoj Srathongpoon, Head of Network and Local Community Coordination at the STOU Regional Academic Resources and Community Engagement Center – Lampang, officially delivered 12 boxes of plastic bottle caps and cups to the Green Road Project in Lamphun. The donation was received by project representatives to be utilized under the Khaya Laek Bun (Trash for Merit) initiative.

    This contribution is a key activity under the project to raise awareness for Entering World University Rankings: Green University,
    an initiative driven by the STOU Department of International Affairs. The project focuses on:

    • Promoting sustainable waste management through systematic sorting and correct recycling practices.
    • Adding value to waste by transforming reclaimed materials into useful products.
    • Cultivating social and environmental responsibility among staff, students, and the community.
    • Transforming Waste into Public Infrastructure

    During the visit, the STOU delegation toured Green Road’s operations to observe the recycling process. The facility transforms plastic waste—including “crinkly” plastic bags (multi-layer plastic)—into durable paving blocks, “Green Roads,” tables, and chairs.
    These recycled products are subsequently donated to schools, temples, national parks, and public spaces nationwide, serving as
    a model for efficient resource management and circular economy principles.

    Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University extends its sincere gratitude to its personnel, students, alumni, and the general public for their active participation in the university’s environmental missions. These collective efforts are vital steps in STOU’s journey toward long-term sustainability and a greener society.

  • STOU Partners with Phetchaburi Secondary Educational Office to Launch Pre-Degree Program in 22 Schools, Embracing the Digital Education Era

    STOU Phetchaburi has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Secondary Educational Service Area Office Phetchaburi. This collaboration aims to promote the “Pre-Degree Certificate Program” and STOU’s undergraduate courses across 22 pilot schools in Phetchaburi province, enhancing distance learning and preparing students for full-scale higher education in the digital age.

    On 6 January 2026, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University, through its Regional Academic Resources and Community Engagement Center – Phetchaburi, held an official MOU signing ceremony for the academic cooperation project. This initiative encourages secondary school students to enroll in pre-degree undergraduate courses (Certificate Program) offered by STOU.

    The ceremony was attended by high-ranking executives from both organizations:

    STOU Representatives: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Taweewat Watthanakuljaroen, President of STOU, signed on behalf of the university, with Ms. Samanun Ngoenerd, Director of the STOU Phetchaburi Regional Center, as a witness.

    Phetchaburi Educational Office Representatives: Dr. Nattinan Phramsang, Acting Director of the Secondary Educational Service Area Office Phetchaburi, signed on behalf of the office, with Dr. Worawut Thanomsap, Deputy Director, as a witness.

    The event was also honored by witnesses from STOU’s academic and administrative leadership, including Assoc. Prof. Dr. Karn Boonsiri (Vice-President for Academic Services), Asst. Prof. Dr. Kajornsak Sitti (Director of the Office of Educational Services), and
    Asst. Prof. Witoon Wong-amat (Director of Corporate Communications).

    The MOU aims to achieve four primary goals across the 22 participating schools:

    Promotion: Encourage high school students in Phetchaburi to pursue pre-degree credits through STOU’s diverse certificate programs.

    Preparation: Ready students for distance learning systems, which are becoming the standard for education in the digital era.

    Opportunity: Create pathways for students to pursue higher education concurrently with their secondary school studies.

    Inclusivity: Expand educational access to all 22 pilot schools within the Phetchaburi provincial area.

    This collaboration marks a significant milestone in bridging the gap between secondary and higher education. By integrating STOU’s “Certificate Program” into the high school experience, the project aims to enhance both Hard Skills and Soft Skills for Thai youth, fostering educational equality and sustainable development for the next generation.

  • STOU signing MOU for academic cooperation with partners

    On 11 December 2025, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) is advancing the lifelong learning strategy by joining forces with the Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research (TISTR) under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), Valaya Alongkorn Rajabhat University, and Khao Yai Happiness Co., Ltd. The parties have signed
    a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for academic cooperation to integrate knowledge, elevate research standards, and develop personnel potential for practical implementation in the Pak Chong, Nakhon Ratchasima. The agreement was signed by:
    Assoc. Prof. Dr. Taweewat Watthanakuljaroen, President of STOU, Asst. Prof. Dr. Pannraphat Takolpuckdee, Vice President Valaya Alongkorn Rajabhat University (VRU), Miss Rochana Tangkoonboribun, Deputy Governor for Strategy and Innovation Management, Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research (TISTR), Ms. Paipanee Techanarong, Chairwoman of  Khao Yai Happiness Co., Ltd.

    This collaboration will lead to various initiatives, such as the upgrading of high-quality organic fertilizers derived from agricultural waste, academic outreach projects for elderly healthcare, and the promotion of agro-tourism. These efforts align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and aim to strengthen the country’s grassroots economy.
