Prof. Dr. Gan Chanyawudhiwan, Acting Vice-President for Academic Services, Cultural Preservation, and International Affairs, together with Mrs. Rattip Phukkeson, Acting Director of the Department of International Affairs and Miss Warakan Thanarak, Head of Protocol and New International Initiatives, had the opportunity to meet Prof. Libing Wang, Chief of Section for Educational Innovation and Skills Development, Ms. Heejeong Ahn, Program Specialist in Higher Education, at the UNESCO Bangkok Office.
The visit provided an opportunity to learn about UNESCO projects engaging in distance learning and to discuss possible cooperation between STOU and UNESCO Bangkok.

International Conference in Innovation and Education for Sustainable Human Resource Development will be held on November 15 -16, 2022 and organized by the School of Educational Studies, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University, Nonthaburi, Thailand.
The main objective of the Conference is to provide a forum for academics and educators to discuss and disseminate recent studies, developments, innovations, and advances in Education. The conference will be an opportunity for those working in schools, institutes, and universities as well as those studying in the Education field to participate and submit their papers.

29 June 2022 – Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) donated discarded lottery tickets to Wat Huai Mu Home for Children with Special Needs in Ratchaburi.
Asst. Prof. Dr. Gan Chanyawudhiwan, Acting Vice-President for Academic Services, Cultural Preservation, and International Affairs, together with Asst. Prof. Witoon Wongamart, Acting Director of the Department of Corporate Communication, and Mrs. Rattip Phukkeson, Acting Director of the Department of International Affairs, led the team to make a donation of discarded lottery tickets to Wat Huai Mu Home for Children with Special Needs in Ratchaburi, which will be used to produce flowers, decorative wreaths, and other crafts. The donation was accepted by Phra Chandra Sirakorn, Abbot of Wat Huai Mu.
Wat Huai Mu Home for Children with Special Needs currently looks after 35 kids. The crafts made from lottery tickets are sold and the income is used for the center’s operation.
Under the advice of the Steering Committee for Green University Development of Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University, a campaign for discarded lottery tickets donation was carried out from April-June 2022. The STOU staff and students from both main and regional campuses donated the tickets. The activity was aimed to raise awareness of sustainability and green university development among the university’s employees and students countrywide.
12 June 2022 – The “STOU RUN 2022” mini-marathon was co-hosted by STOU Trang Students Club, STOU Trang Alumni Club and the STOU Regional Academic Resources and Community Engagement Center – Nakhon Si Thammarat, at Khao Chang Hai, Na Yong, Trang, to raise awareness for forest conservation.
The event was joined by STOU administrators, students, alumni and the general public, including Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wittayatorn Tokeaw, the Advisor of STOU Trang Students Club, who presided over the opening ceremony and joined the race. The program featured a fun run (5 km), and a mini-marathon 10 (km). There were also mobile exhibitions on “Forest is life” and “STOU: sustainable university.” To promote the awareness of forest conservation, all runners were given away a forest seedling to be planted back home.

The STOU Regional Academic Resources and Community Engagement Center – Nakhon Si Thammarat also held a parallel activity that is an online speech contest on the topic of “Forest is life.” The activity made ‘forest conservation’ mindfulness reached out to a wider range of people, focusing on the younger generation.
STOU has strongly committed to sustainability and set national and international goals to become a sustainable university.

On 9 June 2022, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Manit Jumpa, Distinguished Member of the University Council, Acting President of Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) and Mr. Wichai Bandasak, Mayor of Pakkret Municipality has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the main conference room at Pakkret Municipality Office. Dr. Sitthichai Ruchayosyothin, Dean of the School of Science and Technology and Mr. Somsak Lamor, Deputy Mayor have witnessed and co-signed the MOU.
The MOU aimed at the development of the locality by applying computer information and other serviceable technologies taught at STOU, as well as the body of knowledge from the field of science and technology, to enhance the services of Pakkret District.

On 15 June 2022, the National Research Council of Thailand, Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation held the “Internationally Outstanding Inventors Awards Ceremony” and presentation of certificates of appreciation to Thai inventors and researchers who have been internationally awarded. Prof. Sirirerk Songsivilai, M.D., Ph.D., Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, presided over and presented the certificates of appreciation to the inventors and researchers.

NRCT continuously funds and operates inventions and innovations promotion schemes at the international level to enhance international competitiveness for Thai researchers and inventors. There were altogether 164 pieces of work awarded at 11 different international stages in the fiscal year 2022 so far.
His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua and Her Majesty Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana graciously presided over the Graduation Ceremony of Sukhothai Thammathriat Open University for the Academic Year 2018-2019 on 4-6 June 2022. The graduates celebrated the joyous occasion at STOU Conference Hall (Aneknitat Building).
Eighteen thousand nine hundred and eleven students graduated in these two academic years, including 17,241 from Bachelor’s Degree level, 1,621 from Master’s Degree level, and 49 from Doctoral Degree level. Among them was Parliament president and former prime minister Chuan Leekpai, who was awarded an honorary doctorate in Communication Arts: Communication Innovation for Political and Local Administration.

On 30 May 2022 at 8.00 hrs., Assoc. Prof. Dr. Manit Jumpa, Distinguished Member of the University Council, Acting President of Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU), presided over the wreath-laying ceremony at Rajamangalaphisek Education Park to commemorate the passing of His Majesty King Prajadhipok (King Rama VII).
The event featured a memorial reading by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Manit Jumpa, and the placement of wreaths by representatives from each department.
On 12 May 2022, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) held an event to celebrate the Visakha Bucha Day at the university’s main campus in Nonthaburi.
Prof. Dr. Wichit Srisa-san, Chairman of the University Council, presided over the ceremony, including alms-giving, Buddhist sermon listening and candlelight procession. To mark the auspicious time of the year, STOU members also made a donation for the construction of Ubosot at Wat Ko Kriang in Pathum Thani.
Visakha Bucha Day is considered the most sacred day in the Buddhist calendar, commemorating the three major events in the life of Buddha: his birth, his enlightenment, and his death. This year Makha Bucha Day falls on 15 May 2022, and is a national holiday in Thailand. STOU held the event in advance to allow the STOU members to celebrate together.
Congratulations to the Research Center of Communication and Development Knowledge Management (CCDKM), School of Communication Arts, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) for receiving the Community Outreach Award (2021 eLFA Award) from the eLearning Forum Asia (eLFA).
eLFA has been garnering strong support from educational institutions, business partners, eLearning practitioners, ICT experts, faculty and even students from the region and internationally to meet annually and share best practices in teaching and learning among the eLearning communities to further enhance sharing of experiences and all good deeds to all humanities. The eLFA2021 was hosted by Soegijapranata Catholic University (SCU) during 30 November – 1 December 2021 virtually.
