    STOU Organized a Preparation Meeting for the ITA Implementation in 2024

    On 21 February 2024, at Meeting Room 1608, Administration Building, Asst. Prof. Dr. Phanompatt Smitananda, Member of the University Council and Acting President, presided over the opening of the meeting to clarify the framework for the implementation of the Integrity and Transparency Assessment (ITA) of Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU)
    for the fiscal year 2024.

    The Integrity and Transparency Assessment (ITA) of government agencies, according to
    the guidelines of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC), has been implemented by STOU since the fiscal year 2019. For the fiscal year 2024, Asst. Prof. Dr. Phanompatt Smitananda, Member of the University Council and Acting President of Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) has issued the No Gift Policy and Dos & Don’ts guidelines.

    Assoc. Prof. Dr. Thanasak Saijampa, Vice-President for Strategy, Planning, Digital Technology, and Human Resources, chaired the meeting to clarify the framework for STOU’s ITA implementation for the fiscal year 2024 to liaison officers in all university offices. The university has assigned the Quality Assurance Coordination Center and the Legal Affairs Division as the main responsible offices to carry out the assessment criteria set by the NACC. The assessment covers 10 indicators, such as information disclosure, corruption prevention, exercise of power, use of state assets, etc. There are perception surveys and opinion collection from various stakeholders, including Internal Integrity and Transparency Assessment (IIT), External Integrity and Transparency Assessment (EIT), and Open Data Integrity and Transparency Assessment (OIT).

    STOU Students Club Sports Day & Community Engagement

    After a stressful period of examination has passed, STOU Students Club from the South and the North held recreational activities for everybody to relax.

    On 2 March 2024, STOU Chumphon Student Club together with the Regional Academic Resources and Community Engagement Center – Nakhon Si Thammarat organized the 18th STOU Southern Region Sports Day at Chumphon Provincial Stadium. Asst. Prof. Dr. Phanompatt Smitananda, Acting President of STOU, presided over the opening ceremony, joined by over 500 administrators, faculty members, staff, students and alumni of STOU. There was a friendly futsal match between STOU faculty vs students and alumni as one of the highlight activities.

    The STOU Southern Region Sports Day is an annual event hosted alternately by the Student Clubs within the region. The event helped de-stress after exams and promoted health, wellness, and good relations among STOU staff and students. During the event, tourism in Chumphon province was also encouraged. Participants had the opportunity to visit Kromluang Chumphon Khet Udomsak Shrine and Nongyai Area Development Project under the Royal Initiative.

    The STOU Chumphon Student Club also held a homecoming night at Morakot Twin Hotel, where Mr. Nopporn Usit, Chief Executive of the Chumphon Provincial Administrative Organization presided over the opening ceremony. The event featured a singing contest, a star contest, and a sports prize distribution ceremony.

    While in the North, the STOU Lamphun Student Club and Alumni Club held a school development volunteer camp at Ban Pa Lap – Mae Sa Ngae School on 24-25 February 2024. Asst. Prof. Dr.Sirilak Namwong and Asst. Prof. Dr. Thamrongjet Puttamuk from the School of Agriculture and Cooperatives joined the students and alumni at the camp.

    On 22 February 2024, Asst. Prof. Dr. Phanompatt Smitananda, Acting President of Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU), together with Asst. Prof. Dr. Gan Chanyawudhiwan, Acting Vice-President for Academic Services, Cultural Preservation, and International Affairs, welcomed Prof. Iwanaga Masaya, President of the Open University of Japan (OUJ), and other delegates from OUJ, accompanied by Mr. Uchida Takeshi, First Secretary of the Embassy of Japan in Thailand.

    The delegates discussed possible academic collaborations and shared ideas on distance education with STOU administrators and staff. The delegates then visited the King Prajadhipok and Queen Rambhai Barni Documentation Center and the Educational Broadcasting Production Center (EBPC).

    Celebrating 2024 Makha Bucha at STOU

    On 22 February 2024, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) held an event to celebrate Makha Bucha Day at the Rajamangalapisek Education Park of STOU headquarters in Nonthaburi.

    Asst. Prof. Dr. Phanompatt Smitananda, Acting President of STOU, presided over the ceremony hosted by the Office of Continuing Education. The ceremony included alms-giving, Buddhist sermon listening and a candlelight procession at Ho Phra Phut Ming Mongkhon Dhammasathan.

    Makha Bucha Day is considered a significant Buddhist occasion in Thailand. Makha Bucha refers to the full moon of the third lunar month. This year Makha Bucha falls on 24 February 2024, which is a public holiday nationwide. So, the university held the event beforehand to allow administrators, faculty members, and staff to have the opportunity to perform the ceremony together.

    STOU’s Continuing Donation Campaigns

    On 20 February 2024, Asst. Prof. Dr. Gan Chanyawudhiwan, Acting Vice-President for Academic Services, Cultural Preservation, and International Affairs, and Miss Chidchanok Bangsen, International Affairs Officer, represented Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University in making donations carried out in the sustainability awareness-raising campaigns.

    Reusable cloth and paper bags were donated to Pakkret 2 Hospital in Nonthaburi which was accepted by Mr. Noppadol Sahasoontornwong, Pharmacist. The patients at the hospital can use the donated bags to carry their prescribed medicine instead of using plastic bags.

    Old desk calendars were delivered to the Educational Technology Center for the Blind, Foundation for the Blind in Thailand under the Royal Patronage of H.M. the Queen. The donation was accepted by Ms. Chanidapa Petchrak, the Director of the Center. The old desk calendars will be used to produce Braille-printed instructional materials for the visually impaired.

    STOU helps raise sustainability awareness among agriculturists

    On 19 February 2024, the School of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University together with the Office of Natural Resource and Environment of Samut Songkhram Province, organized an event “Awareness-Raising for the Use of Agricultural Waste” at Kanokrat Resort in Ban Prok, Muang, Samut Songkhram. Mr. Korakot Wongsuwan, Deputy Governor of Samut Songkhram Province, presided over the opening ceremony. There were 70 participants from 3 districts in the province. The event was a part of the “Garbage Collection Management and Waste Value Addition for Samut Songkhram” Project.

    Asst. Prof. Dr. Gan Chanyawudhiwan, Acting Vice-President for Academic Services, Cultural Preservation, and International Affairs, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Parichat Dittakit, Director of the Rajamangalaphisek Education Park Division, led a group of faculty members and staff to join the event.

    Dr. Parichat gave a special talk on “Innovation in Agricultural Waste Management in Driving BCG Model Towards Sustainable Social Development” and joined a discussion on “Systematic Management of Waste at Source and Waste Economic Value Addition.”

    STOU Nursing Capping Ceremony 2023

    Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University’s School of Nursing celebrates The Capping, Pinning and Candle Lighting Ceremony for Academic Year 2022 on 17 February 2023 at the conference hall of Phitayapat Building at STOU Nonthaburi. Asst. Prof. Dr. Premruetai Noimuenwai, Dean of the School of Nursing presided over as the chair of the ceremony. There were 71 out of 203 students joined the ceremony.

    The capping and pinning ceremony marks an important milestone for nursing students who finished their basic courses and are ready for clinical practice. The ceremony promotes the value of professional pride, and a positive attitude toward the nursing profession and their home institution, where the nursing students’ working morality, ethics, and culture are cultivated.

    The event was attended by proud family members. Those unable to attend can watch the live streaming of the ceremony via various channels.

    Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University has offered nursing programs since 1984. There are currently 3 programs including Bachelor of Nursing Science, Master of Nursing Science in Nursing Administration, and Master of Nursing Science in Community Nurse Practitioner.

    STOU joined the 4th National and 14th International Conference on Arts and Culture

    The Thailand University Art and Culture Network held the 4th National and 14th International Conference on Arts and Culture (ICAC2024) with the theme of “Soft Power – Arts and Culture in Creative Economy” on 17 and 18 February 2024, at Buddha Wichalai Building, Phranakhon Rajabhat University, Bangkok.

    On 17 February 2024, Mr. Permsuk Sutchaphiwat, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, presided over the opening ceremony and gave a keynote speech on “MHESI’s Role in Driving Thailand’s Soft Power.”

    The conference featured various academic and cultural activities including a conference session on “– Arts and Culture in Creative Economy,” presentations of research and academic works of both faculty members and students, exhibitions of arts, culture and local wisdom in the concept of “Khong Dee Ban Chan” which means My Hometown’s Charms.

    The participating institutions and agencies concluded a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to establish a network for cultural restoration, conservation, dissemination and enhancement, uniting people and resources. Asst. Prof. Dr. Phanompatt Smitananda, Acting President of STOU, signed the MOU with 14 partners including Office of Contemporary Art  (Ministry of Culture), Department of Cultural Promotion, Community Development Department (Ministry of Interior), Burapha University, Kanchanaburi Rajabhat University, Kamphaeng Phet Rajabhat University, Phranakhon Si Ayutthaya Rajabhat University, Nakhon Pathom Rajabhat University, Phetchaburi Rajabhat University, Phranakhon Rajabhat University, Rajamangala University of Technology Krungthep, Rambhai Barni Rajabhat University, Thepsatri Rajabhat University, and Suratthani Rajabhat University.

    Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chanoknart Boonwatthanakul, Director of the Office of Continuing Education keenly joined the conference as a commentator for the research presentation. The university also showcased the Art of Thai Vegetable and Fruit Carving by Chef Nikom Isarangkun Na Ayuthaya or Chef Kob from the STOU Seminar and Training Center at the “Khong Dee Ban Chan” Exhibition.

    On 14 February 2024, Asst. Prof. Dr. Phanompatt Smitananda, STOU Acting President together with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Narathip Sriram, Acting Vice-President for Education, Learning Support, and Research, Asst. Prof. Dr. Gan Chanyawudhiwan, Acting Vice-President for Academic Services, Cultural Preservation, and International Affairs, and Mrs. Rattip Phukkeson, Acting Director of the Department of International Affairs, joined the virtual signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding between Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) and Anadolu University (ANAU), Turkiye.

    Asst. Prof. Dr. Phanompatt Smitananda, STOU Acting President, and Professor Dr. Fuat Erdal, ANAU President signed the MOU, which was witnessed by executives from both universities.

    Anadolu University is a leading university in digital technology and educational innovation in Turkiye. It is one of the largest universities providing both conventional and distance education. There are nearly two million students from 128 countries enrolled at ANAU this academic year. There are over 550 exchange students and faculty members.

    The MOU Signing Ceremony between STOU and ANAU created a cooperative network for the exchange of academics, research, innovation, and culture. The cooperation will help enhance the quality of personnel and research, answering to university’s vision of becoming ‘the world-leading open university utilizing technology and educational innovation to provide lifelong education for all.’
