    STOU Asalha Bucha Day and Buddhist Lent Day 2024

    On 19 July 2024, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) organized the ceremony of Asalha Bhucha Day and Buddhist Lent Day, which would fall on 20 and 21 July 2024. Asst. Prof. Dr. Phanompatt Smitananda, Acting President, presided over the ceremony and led a candle procession before joining other activities all the morning.

    The main activities of the event included:

    1. Lent Candle Procession, one of the main activities of the Buddhist Lent Day ceremony, showcasing candle sculpture within STOU Headquarters

        2. Alms offering ceremony where dried food was given to nine monks

        3. Buddhist Sermon Listening aiming to make wishes for the participants themselves and those they love, as well as to brush up their minds

        4. Presenting Lent candle and Cloth for the rains, one of the traditional main activities on Buddhist Lent Day

        5. Candlelight Procession around Ho Phra Phut Ming Mongkhon Dhammasathan, a pavillion in STOU Rajamangalapisek Education Park, to pay respect to the Buddha.

        Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University fulfills our mission in preserving and promoting Buddhist traditions and culture through various events, open to participants from the university and
        the neighboring community, throughout the year.

      1. STOU donation in July 2024

        STOU donation in July 2024

        Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University continues our commitment and dedication to both human welfare and environmental responsibility through charitable initiatives in July 2024.

        On 12 July 2024, representatives from STOU Nonthaburi Student Club delivered donated reusable items to Mrs. Rattip Phukkeson, Acting Director of the Department of International Affairs and
        Mr. Tamphong Wongchan, Acting Director of the STOU’s Regional Academic Resources and Community Engagement Center – Nonthaburi.

        The donated items will be sorted and distributed to the following places.

        • Clothes and shoes would be distributed to The Mirror Foundation.
        • Full-body stockings and hard plastic cups would be distributed to the Sirindhorn National Medical Rehabilitation Institute (SNMRI).
        • Lottery tickets would be distributed to Wat Huai Mu – Ratchaburi.
        • Cloth bags, paper bags, and beauty accessories and cosmetics would be distributed to Thammasat University Hospital.

        On 19 July 2024, Miss Pattamarat Sumransuk, an Examination Coordinator represented the university to deliver donated medicines to Umphang Hospital. These medicines would be distributed to nearby hospitals serving underprivileged communities.

        On the same day, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gan Chanyawudhiwan, Acting Vice-President for Academic Services, Cultural Preservation, and International Affairs, Asst. Prof. Dr. Thanapan Thanee, Director of the STOU’s Regional Academic Resources and Community Engagement Center – Ubon Ratchathani, and representatives from STOU Student Club made donations to
        ‘Ubon Hug Paeng Home for Protection and Development for Persons with Disabilities’ and ‘Ubon Ratchathani Protection Center for the Homeless.’ The directors of both organizations accepted the donations. The donated items included medicines, clothes, cloth bags and paper bags, which would be distributed to those in need.

        STOU collaborated with the Citizen Volunteer Project of the Thai Volunteer Service to ensure the donated medicines and medical equipment were properly categorized before being delivered to those in need.

      2. STOU donated drinking water to district hospital

        STOU donated drinking water to district hospital

        On 17 July 2024, Asst. Prof. Dr. Phanompatt Smitananda, Acting President of Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU), led a university delegation to donate 200 dozen (2,400 bottles) of drinking water to Ban Mai Subdistrict Health Promoting Hospital in Pak Kret District, Nonthaburi Province. This donation is intended to benefit the hospital’s staff, patients, their families, and various community activities. The water is produced under the university’s ‘Parichart’ brand.

        This public welfare activity, a water donation, was organized by Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University’s Human Resources Division in honor of His Majesty the King’s 6-cycle birthday celebration, marking His Majesty’s 72nd birthday on 28 July 2024.

      3. STOU joined National Conference on Persons with Disabilities

        STOU joined National Conference on Persons with Disabilities

        On 12 July 2024, Asst. Prof. Dr. Phanompatt Smitananda, Acting President of Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU), along with administrators and staff of the Regional Academic Resources and Community Engagement Center – Ubon Ratchathani, attended the 16th National Conference on Persons with Disabilities (NCPD 2024) at Udon Thani Rajabhat University. H.E. General Dapong Ratanasuwan, Privy Councillor, presided over the opening ceremony.

        The NCPD conference has been held continuously for 16 years. This year conference was co-organized by Udon Thani Rajabhat University and the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, on the topic of “Innovation Driving for Quality of Life of Persons with Disabilities towards the Sustainable
        Thai Society on the Auspicious Occasion of His Majesty the King’s 72nd Birthday.”

        The seminar has an important goal to promote the development and dissemination of knowledge, research, academic work, and assistive technologies for people with disabilities, in collaboration with academic network partners. This leads to further development and expansion, as well as supporting the creation and development of human resources, personnel, researchers,
        and academics in the field of improving the quality of life for people with disabilities. It also aims to support caregivers of people with disabilities to be ready for employment and social participation.

        Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU), represented by Asst. Prof. Dr. Phanompatt Smitananda, Acting President, signed a memorandum of academic cooperation for improving the quality of life of people with disabilities. This agreement was made between the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities and 64 government and private agencies.
        The agreement aims to create networks and promote cooperation in working to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities. There is a shared intention to develop academic knowledge, research and development, innovation,
        assistive technologies, digital technologies, and appropriate technologies according to universal design principles.

      4. STOU collaborates in driving sustainable economic developmentin the Southern border of Thailand

        STOU collaborates in driving sustainable economic developmentin the Southern border of Thailand

        On 13 July 2024, The School of Management Science and the Regional Academic Resources and Community Engagement Center – Yala of Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU), in collaboration with the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Centre (SBPAC) and the Office of Commercial Affairs in the southern border provinces, organized an academic seminar titled “Thai Products towards Sustainable Economic Development of Southern Border Provinces”. This event was part of a project to enhance the potential of new generation farmers and community enterprise entrepreneurs in producing community products. Pol. Col. Tawee Sodsong, Minister of Justice, cordially presided over the opening ceremony.

        The seminar aimed to drive the goal of elevating business entrepreneurs’ potential by creating added value for products through branding and protecting innovations with intellectual property rights, such as registering trademarks for community enterprise products or entrepreneurs in the southern border provinces. This aligns with the government’s policy of driving Thai economy with Thai Soft Power, focusing on promoting the creative economy through various key strategies: promoting cultural and artistic diversity, and creating a creative economy through activities that add value to the national economy and enhance Thailand’s image on the global stage.

        The seminar was honored by the presence of Pol. Lt. Col. Wannapong Kotcharag, Secretary-General of the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Centre (SBPAC); Mrs. Patimoh Sadiyamu, Governor of Pattani Province; Asst. Prof. Dr. Pavin Chinachoti, Dean of the STOU School of Management Science; Mr. Pitak Korkiatpitak, Mayor of Pattani’s Muang District.
        The event was held at the CS Pattani Hotel’s ballroom in Pattani Province.

        The seminar attracted over 220 participants, including academic seminar attendees, booth exhibitors, and those joining
        the exhibition. Participants included entrepreneurs, community enterprises, and farmers from all five southern border provinces, as well as other interested.

      5. STOU X SEAMOLEC: the continuous cooperation

        The SEAMEO Regional Open Learning Center (SEAMOLEC) and Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) co-organized workshops on Augmented Reality Development for faculty members and university staff in 2 phases:

        1. Introduction to 3D based Augmented Reality Learning Media conducted in online mode on 2 – 4 July 2024, and
        2. Augmented Reality Development conducted face to face at STOU Headquarters in Nonthaburi, Thailand, on 16 – 18 July 2024

        On 16 July 2024, Dr. Yaya Sutarya, Deputy Director for Administrator of SEAMOLEC, represented SEAMOLEC in joining the opening session and delivered a remark regarding the workshop. Asst. Prof. Dr. Phanompatt Smitananda, Acting President of STOU delivered his welcoming speech to the participants and SEAMOLEC staff.

        The 3-day workshop was supervised by Mr. Timbul Pardede, SEAMOLEC Training Expert, who led a trainer team including:
        Mr. Aji Wicaksono, the main workshop trainer and Miss Daniah Adjani Putri, the training assistant.

        The training was successful as participants were able to explain AR and its connection with 3D content-based media, understand what content should be picked from their subject materials to be made into 3D, and visualize their idea into 3D content.

        On 11 July 2024, the STOU’s Regional Academic Resources and Community Engagement Center – Ubon Ratchathani in cooperation with The Mall Korat Department Store, held an opening ceremony of the newly established STOU Service Center at B floor of The Mall Korat, where Asst. Prof. Dr. Phanompatt Smitananda, Acting President of STOU, presided over.

        The STOU Service Center at The Mall Korat provides services on enrollment, course registration, and providing information and answering questions about studying at STOU. The Center opens daily from 10.00 AM to 6.00 PM.

      7. Dean of School of Health Science won Award for Distance Education in Public Health Management Excellence

        Dean of School of Health Science won Award for Distance Education in Public Health Management Excellence

        On 27 – 29 June 2024, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Warangkana Chankong, Dean of the School of Health Science and Asst. Prof. Dr. Kultida Bunjongsiri, Deputy Dean of the School of Health Science, joined the 14th International Public Health Conference among Greater Mekong Sub-regional Countries (14th# ICPH-GMS) at the Pullman Hotel in Luang Prabang, Lao PDR. The conference aimed to develop the capability of faculty members and students, including the exchange of academic knowledge and research work, as well as developing network cooperation.

        At the conference, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Warangkana Chankong received an Award for Distance Education in Public Health Management Excellence. This award reflects STOU’s devotion and commitment to responding to the needs of both students and the faculty members. The award recognized the research work that studied the needs of students, lecturers, and relevant stakeholders and apply to teaching and learning design for both undergraduate and graduate programs.

      8. STOU’s donation and volunteering activity at Ban Thung Kang Yang School

        STOU’s donation and volunteering activity at Ban Thung Kang Yang School

        On 29 – 30 June 2024, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gan Chanyawudhiwan, Acting Vice-President for Academic Services, Cultural Preservation, and International Affairs, and Mr. Wiruch Atiruttanapunya, Director of the STOU’s Regional Academic Resources and Community Engagement Center – Kanchanaburi, conducted a volunteering activity at Ban Thung Kang Yang School.

        The activity was initiated by the STOU Graduate Club and Student Club from Kanchanaburi. The volunteers delivered a variety of donated items, including clothing, hygiene products, medical supplies, toys, paper bags, shoes, and sports equipment, to the Director of Ban Thung Kang Yang School in Kanchanaburi. These items will be distributed to the teachers, students, and people in need.

        The team also joined force with the Graduate Club and Student Club from Ratchaburi, Phetchaburi, Suphan Buri, Nakhon Pathom, Nonthaburi, Bangkok and Phuket, as well as private sector, including Hellmann Company, Irrigation Club for Society, Thai Lee Foods International Co.,Ltd., PSI Corporation Co,.Ltd. and Dr. Anusak Kongmalai, Member of the Senate of Thailand, for a volunteering activity at Ban Thung Kang Yang School. The volunteers renovated the toilets and toiletware at the school and also provided lunch for students and people in town.

        Congratulations to two researchers of Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University for receiving
        the 2023 New Generation Researcher Award from Prachachuen Research Network:

        • Asst. Prof. Dr. Phantipa Amornrit, Faculty Member of the Office of Educational Technology, awarded Good Prize.
        • Mr. Wutipark Poonbua, Faculty Member of the School of Management Science, Honorable Mention Prize.
